MLB Quick Recap - Friday June 7
Discussing some notable MLB news and performances from Friday, June 7th.
Pitcher of the day - Framber Valdez
Framber Valdez lowered his ERA to 3.53 after a dominant complete game against the Angels. It took Valdez just 106 pitches to retire 27 Angels hitters, allowing just one run, a Kevin Pillar homer in the second inning.
Valdez led the Astros to a 7-1 win in Anaheim and lowered his FIP to 3.83, which ranks 27th among AL pitchers with at least 60 innings pitched.

Hitter of the day - Bryan De La Cruz
I might be slightly biased because I’m a Marlins fan, but Bryan De La Cruz had an excellent game yesterday. De La Cruz singled, homered, and doubled in consecutive at-bats, playing a massive part in the Marlins 3-2 win over the Guardians.
De La Cruz’s solo home run in the third inning was his eleventh of the season, which puts him in a great position to break his career-high of 19 home runs. That home run was also the furthest ball hit in MLB on Friday, traveling 432 feet.

Game of the day - Dodgers vs Yankees
The highly-anticipated matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees lived up to the hype.
The game was scoreless through the first ten innings until Thursday’s hitter of the day, Teoscar Hernandez, came through with a go-ahead two-run double.
Aaron Judge hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th, but it wasn’t enough, as the Yankees fell to the Dodgers by a final score of 2-1 in front of over 48,000 fans in the Bronx.

Storyline of the day - Blue Jays DFA Cavan Biggio
The Blue Jays designated Cavan Biggio for assignment after over five years with the big league team. Biggio recorded a 116 OPS+ in his first two seasons; however, he has a 92 OPS+ since 2021 and an 80 OPS+ this season.
It feels like Biggio getting designated for assignment is the first domino to fall in the Blue Jays rebuild/retool, as a lot of people are expecting Bo Bichette and/or Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to be shipped off from the last place Blue Jays to a contender at the deadline
